Pori Theatre was established in 1931 as a merger of two local theatregroups: Pori Workers’ Theatre and Pori Stage Theatre. Pori is considered to be the birthplace of Finnish speaking professional theatre as the Finnish National Theatre gave its first performance in Pori at Hotel Otava in 1872. The theatrehouse was designed by a Swedish architect Johan Erik Stenberg in 1884 and it represents Renaissance Revival art style. Its interior is one of the most prestigious in Finland. The main auditorium has 304 seats and the studio stage which was opened in 1974 has 110 seats. Artistic Director of the Pori Theatre is Mr. Christian Lindroos.
